The Sound is DJing tonight at the Desmond party. It's going to be huge. Below is definitely my favourite remixed Desmond track. Crazy Rebel is already a huge song, but The Sound adds a new dimension. Take a listen and get a little amped for a big party.

As you know by now, Desmond & The Tutus have just recorded and released their new EP, __& The__ and have been touring in bits and pieces to promote the release. This weekend, they are coming to Cape Town to play two shows, one at Mercury Live on Friday night and the other, at Klein Libertas on Saturday night.

Vampire Weekend's music has long had notable flavours of African influence blended with indie pop. I stumbled across something the lead singer, Ezra Koenig was involved in. It is really great. Take a listen. This might just be restoring my faith in the music scene. If it doesn't, well it's still great song.
What this song does, is make me proud to be an African, and it makes me stoked for summer, which is soon.
So, by now, you should know all about the tour that Desmond have embarked on. If you consider yourself a fan, you will be well aware that their tour climaxes in Cape Town, next weekend, 28 and 29 August at Mercury Live and Klein Libertas respectively.

So, the drummer from Civil Twilight, Richard Wouters, has selected his 8 favourite songs. This is pretty timely, as just yesterday I was asking where all the good music has gone. Although he hasn't selected too much new music, it's helpful for us to not forget what has made us 'happy' in the past.

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks I love this whole album. In fact, our whole band has been getting into it and really enjoying it. It’s a super creative and fun album that seems to transport one to a magical world of sounds and pictures, melodies, rhythms and harmonies that the Beach Boys would be proud of.
Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days Still glorious, if you don’t mind the cheezy pun. Lately, I’ve been enjoying Bruce more than just about anything else. He wrote so many good songs, it’s a bit ridiculous. This is one of my favorites of his. It’s a happy song and I love the changes on the verses.
The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun Another favorite that never gets old. There’s something about this song and the way it’s played and sung that is so appealing. It never fails to make me feel like the day is just beginning and everything is new and life is good.
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal I’m a bit of a sucker for a good melody, with a simple groove and some sunny harmonies thrown on top. This song epitomizes what I love about that sound. It’s both severely nostalgic and refreshingly fresh.
The National - Fake Empire Such a great band. I never get tired of this album. Anthemic, moody, heart-felt songs by a band that has recently matured in the most satisfying way.
Bat for Lashes - Daniel I’ve been a fan of hers for a while. She does unique stuff that is sonically super interesting. I like the UK 80s dance edge that this track has. In parts, it’s reminiscent of some very cool stuff from two decades ago.
Taylor Swift - Love Story This is totally a guilty pleasure. I don’t even know why I like this song (and I cant believe I’m admitting it), but whenever it comes on the radio, I find it hard to turn it off. It’s just such a wonderfully crafted little pop song. It makes me feel nostalgic in a weird teenage girl kind of way. Like I’m inside their mind or something. Hmmm, strange, I know.
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean I think everyone is going through a bit of a Michael phase right now. I’ve been a huge fan of his music over the years. He’s put out so much great stuff. This is one of my favorites. It’s just so right on every level. One of the greatest pop songs ever, in my opinion.

Over the last few weeks, I have noticed a decline in the number of sublime tunes available. I have even supplemented my lack of music downloads with the download of a BBC documentary on The Stone Roses. Added to this, frequent podcast downloads from triplej (Aussie radio station) keep things fresh, but on the whole, I am not feeling very musically inspired.
However, this morning I stumbled across one of the best fan videos I have EVER seen. Grizzly Bear's song, Two Weeks is great. But that's no secret. Some fan went crazy with his design/computure skills and made this:

I am looking for new mind bending music. Does anyone have any suggestions, preferably with links attached? Who's the next big band? Not even Gorilla vs Bear have been very helpful and I religiously read that blog.
I am somewhat inspired to put together some of my best songs. I am going to go with my top 10 of this year I think. A decade is too long and 40 is too many. A decade ago I was in primary school! I'm blue dubadee dubadidubadee dubadi dubadee dubadi!. No thanks.
Early on in the night, Assembly djs made their intentions clear. Heavy electro was served to all. Justice, Digitalism, Presets and even a Boys Noise remix (Feist - My Moon My Man) made up a good portion of beats thrown down. Dance moves were so outrageous, that at one stage, my beverage was shoulder-barged by a little lady into my mouth chipping my front tooth. This came a week after I wrote off my car. Fun fun. Check Berry advertising his own company. You go boy. If that girl is who I think it is, she should totally be getting a salary from WAA for all the features she has appeared in for the lads. Either that, or, should she become a model, WAA should get shares in her profits for all the PR they have done for her over the years. WAA could totally start a modelling agency.
