No, not we-are-awesome street fashion type talent. They did a post about Taxi Violence and D7. I don't know the latter as a band, but I saw my one friend in the pic. Check it here.

Taxi Violence - Devil 'n Pistol (Music Video)

I got hold of the new Taxi Violence video. I was impressed with the opening sequences, you know well constructed, interesting them, not low budget, yada yada yada. And then it just got twisted. I guess I should have seen it coming, what with the title of the track being, Devil 'n Pistol. Anyway, once I got over being freaked out, I saw the clever creative side of the African-American bar theme with a band playing and the odd well known face.

Was anyone else as disturbed by this video as I was? Or am I just overreacting?

Isochronous at Zula

On the back of their huge weekend success at Ramfest, Isochronous played to a medium sized crowd at Zula Bar on Wednesday where Richard Brokensha (front man to both Isochronous and Kidofdoom) could be seen to still be recovering from a heavy few days.

Their music is heavily synth driven with ecstatic drum sequences and pulsating guitar and base riffs. I bought their album on the night, it's good. But nothing compares to a live Isochronous show. They finished their set, or tried to finish their set, but the crowd that had gathered would not let them leave the stage without playing one last song. Vibing! I am excited to see them perform to larger crowds in the months to come, they are going to be huge.

They continue their Cape Town tour tonight at Mercury with Ashtray Electric and tomorrow at the Klein Libertas with Taxi Violence. It promises to be a winner of a weekend with Iso and the rest.

Taxi Violence, Francois and Inge collaborate

On Saturday, Taxi Violence performed at Marshall Music in Cape Town with guest performers Francois from Polisiekar and Inge from Lark.
The weird thing about the show was that is was in the morning, about 11am. The event was to celebrate LMG's birthday. LMG is a music magazine in Cape Town.
Hearing George and Inge perform was certainly a highlight for the 25 people that had gathered for the show. Francois was still pretty under the weather from whatever he had been up to until the wee hours of the morning. Fun times.
After the show I had a chat with Francois. He is very handsy, and does not like blogs, maybe thanks to a word or two from good old Luca.
Fun morning but it was sad that so few people turned up for the show.

Taxi Violence Gig Guide

So Taxi Violence have a few shows with some good bands planned for January '09, two of which are already over. Here they are.

Fri 23 Jan - Taxi Violence performing acoustic at Berties Mooring in Gordens Bay. Be there from 8pm.

Sat 24 Jan - Taxi Violence rocking out at the Southern Ink Exposure Tattoo Convention Party. Also performing are aKing, Damn Right and The Mochines. Doors of The Assembly (Cape Town) open at 9pm. (If you missed this impressive Assembly show, click here.)

Fri 30 Jan - Taxi Violence kicking out with the amazing Pretty Blue Guns, Halfprice and The Plastics at Mercury Live, Cape Town. Doors open at 9pm and R40 gets you rocking!

Sat 31 Jan - Stellenbosch Karnaval! Heck Yeah! Catch Taxi at Tollies.

The Darkness Cometh

Last night Assembly was invaded by Northern Suburbs music enthusiasts to witness Damn Right, Taxi Violence and the big draw card, Aking. Unfortunately, the ticket prices were really high and so that affected attendance. R80

The two thirds capacity venue were subjected to the travesty that is Damn Right. With clashing melodies from front man "Nixxx" and backing from bassist "Bruizer" (??), there was little pleasant about the experience. I was not the only to feel that way. Eventually, the council had had enough and turned off the power. Quite a blunt message really. But once the generator was up and running, so were they. They started their song again. Bleak.

Next up were the more impressive Taxi Violence. They have been getting more popular over the months as they have tried new things like a dvd and actually playing loads of shows. They were tight, a good listen and didn't take the opportunity of playing for Aking fans for granted. They put on a show second to none. With definite Wolfmother/ACDC influences they opened their set hard and well and that set the mood for the rest of their set. Nice work.

Aking, the obvious main attraction for the evening seemed to be in a little bit of a weird place for their set. They played well and blahh blahh I enjoyed it. But they were so chilled on stage! There was very little jumping around or screaming as one has been accustomed to witnessing from bands from the Northern Suburbs. Front man Laudo played out the show alone with a cute melodic tune on his guit and said goodnight. Download the Aking track, Love Your Neighbour, free from Rythm Online.

It was a super show on the whole, but I forgot it was a tattoo convention until this morning. Joy.

Violence, Anger, Wrath!

So, I went to town last night with the thought of going to Mercury for the Taxi Violence acoustic show where they were filming a DVD. I arrived at about 21h30 and met up with Dave, Steve and John at Shak. We had a drink before going across to the show (one door down). At 22h05 we arrived at Mercury. The bouncer would not let us in. I told him I was on the list, but he said it didn't matter. Apparently, because they had been playing for 5 minutes the doors were closed. RI(effing)DICULOUS!! I was livered. So livered.

Have you ever been turned away from a gig because you are late for the show (even if you are on the guestlist)? What do the band think about the guys at the front turning away patrons?

Who do I blame? The band? The organisers? The bouncers?

But we went dancing later in the evening and it was fun. Rad.

Taxi Violence at Mercury

Taxi Violence are going "big" with someone quite special. They are using Friday night's show to shoot an acoustic DVD, something I don't think enough bands consider. I am super excited about this one. Big up to the guys. Come along to support.
