we-are-awesome go naked
So, we-are-awesome are getting naked, even if it does take a "special" kid and his mom. If only cevron were still around to enjoy it... Check out more pics from this topless wonder.
Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009) - RIP
So, I woke up to a lot more than I bargained for this morning. The world mourns as legendary King-of-Pop, Michael Jackson, dies. He had a heart attack at about 00h30 this morning (Friday June 26, SA time) at his home in LA.
Anyway, in commemoration of this guy, Asian Dan posted a track. Download below.
Michael Jackson - Get On the Floor (Holy Ghost! Edit)
I have a pretty embarrassing memory that includes this man's music and a certain movie theme we used in high school for a cabaret. I danced, dressed as a girl to Thriller. Not my proudest moment, but the death of this sensation calls for some honesty. Am I alone? There must be others who have done stupid things in the name of Michael Jackson, things even he would frown upon?

Who has released the best album of 2009? Part 1
Well, I have a few bands I will highlight. They have each released albums that are rather phenomenal.
Animal Collective. It seems like an old album now (already 6months) but it is nothing short of ground breaking. I have to admit, my feelings for their older works in, Strawberry Jam and Sung Tongs, are of a loathsome nature. But Merriweather Post Pavilion is WOW. If you haven't bought/stolen it yet, get onto that like yesterday. My favourite song on this album, is the released single, My Girls. If you haven't seen the video for that track, click here. It's still the best video I have seen this year.
How cool are these lyrics:

I don't care for fancy things
Or to take part in a precious race
And children cry for the one who has
A real big heart and a father's grace
I don't mean to seem like I care about material things like a social status
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls

Discotheque, Discotheque
So, on Friday night I went to the Discotheque. Yes, that's right, the Discotheque. Assembly was launching their 'venue within a venue' with a different entrance and everything. It remains officially unnamed, but is affectionately dubbed 'the Annex'.
Although off to a slow start, the night progressed, the venue filled, and the party got huge...until the the venue starting emptying again at about 1h30. It was a little weird. I think the pull of Evol is still very strong on a Friday night despite the ridiculously HEAVY ELECTRO (!!!) that was going down at the Annex.
The Discotheque definitely has potential to be a weekly thing, but I am not sure if the slash to revenue will be welcomed as Assembly usually fills the ENTIRE venue with a band or three on most Fridays.
Check out Assembly's site. It is actually very comprehensive, and for those who don't use Facebook, it is very informative.

Marriage Material of the Week Part #2
So, after the controversial but phenomenal success of Marriage Material of the Week Part #1, I thought I should dive into part #2. I mean, I was so built up by you guys last week, I can't help but throw out another candidate. This week, we have a young lass, who rarely frequents the dance floors of Cape Town. Having said that, I don't think her reasons for not coming/going out are entirely personal choice. Look how happy she is! That's a large, tooth filled grin for someone who would prefer to 'stay in'. She looks genuinely excited to be there. Oh, and "there" is Assembly on Wednesday for aKing's launch. I missed the band, and apparently a whole lot more.
The happiness portrayed in this picture is unfortunately in stark contrast to the reality of a lot of the boys and girls in the clubbing world. Heavy note to end on, I know. But just think about it. It's a sad truth to absorb on this Sunday afternoon, but look at how happy our mmotw girl is!!
Check out some of the other pics from the night. WAA

Metric - Help I'm Alive (acousitc)
So, Aking played at Assembly on Wednesday to launch their new album. Apparently I missed out in a big way! Big up lads.
But, bigger and better (for me) is the release of the new Metric album, FANTASIES.
They have a free download of their single, Help I'm Alive, the acoustic version. Very sexy, if I can use that term.

Thieve - Last Day December
Thieve's debut video is interesting.I have been particularly interested in how these lads have gone about their band. Some bands record before doing anything (Z&G), some play for ages before recording an EP/album (NLR and most other bands); Thieve have played, what, two shows and they already have a video and a couple of recorded tracks. Is it all about contacts? Is the 'Ville' just so well connected? Anyway, I'm done, enjoy the video.

Kings Of Leon - Notion
This is the Kings Of Leon's new video off Only By The Night. Pretty cool. I hear they are already looking into a new album. They say it will be more like their old stuff. Yes Please!! I can't wait.

Arctic Monkeys - New Album
So, I was browsing a few blogs just now, and I saw that Arctic Monkeys are just finished recording and set to release another album, their third. For me, this is exciting news. They recorded in New York City, where it is now being mixed. The date of release for the as of yet untitled album is set for 24 August.
Similar to Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys have released various video updates to let fans know how the album is coming along etc. Something like a Youtube podcast I guess. Below is the latest one.

Marriage Material of the Week Part #1
So, I am starting a new series. It may fall flat, it may fly. I don't know. But I think it is worth an attempt.
Every week I will post at least one picture of a girl or a guy (mostly girls though, as I am that way inclined) who I think, purely on appearance, could be good marriage potential. The frequency of prospects depends on how often we-are-awesome post more party pics or street fashion.
Just so you know, this is not going to be a sleaze fest. Sorry to disappoint the cevrons and the Anonymouses.
So, the first one in the series is this modestly attired blond girl at The Waiting Room. Makeup is minimal, adding to her attractiveness. The obvious downside is that she is drinking beer, or is it cider? Either way, she seems like an amiable young lady.
Could this work? Am I missing something about her? Speak now, or forever hold your peace...
